HEBERGER is working in a joint venture with an Austrian construction company to restore the stability and operational safety of the weir in Horkheim, which was built in 1929, while the weir system remains in operation. The weir is a listed building, which is why the requirements of the monument protection authorities must be strictly adhered to when repairing the weir piers and footbridges.
Another special feature is that the construction site is not flood-protected and can be flooded during high water. The construction site is also only accessible on one side via bridges with a weight load of 12 tonnes. Therefore, larger and heavier construction vehicles (e.g. sheet pile driver, mobile crane), construction equipment (sheet piles, the footbridges to be renovated) and construction materials have to be transported by ship. Much of the work, such as the construction of the sheet piling or the grouted anchors, can only be carried out using floating equipment. This means that extensive diving work is also required, including for the construction of the excavation pit enclosure and the grouted anchors to secure the buoyancy of the weir base. The 3 weir sections will be renovated in 3 separate construction phases in order to ensure the operation of the system with the 2 remaining weir sections in the event of flooding. For this purpose, the individual weir field will be drained with a sheet pile wall and a dam beam closure in the approx. 8 m deep Neckar. During the concreting work, approx. 8 colleagues are on the construction site in Horkheim. HEBERGER has been
